In industrial food processing, a large share of food waste is not caused by actual contamination, but by uncertainty in quality-control decisions.
From Uncertainty to Evidence-Based Decisions
When inspection results are unclear, entire batches are often discarded as a precaution, even when most of the product is safe. This uncertainty affects production and ripples through the supply chain, leading to unnecessary rejection, reprocessing, or disposal of food that could otherwise be distributed safely. With BIOMETiC Mito, the only in-line 3D CT food inspection system, manufacturers can make reliable, evidence-based decisions in real time.
Real Results from Industrial Food Production
Our customer FlexXray offers CT-based inspection as a service.
In one case involving a national US dairy producer, a shredded cheese product was suspected of containing plastic foreign material. Traditional 2D X-ray systems could not reliably assess the product. The project involved more than 26,000 cases, representing over 300 pallets initially at risk of disposal. CT-based analysis showed that 99.9% of the product was free from contamination. This enabled a data-driven evaluation of the batch and helped reduce the risk of unnecessary waste at scale.
